Description
The Himalayan Gardens and Sculpture Park in Ripon, North Yorkshire, is a relatively short drive from the City of York. If I was to try and sum it up, I would say that it’s set in a beautiful valley, bursting with scenic woodland walks, sporting three lakes and a handful of wooden shelters built in the Norse and Himalayan styles. To top it all, there’s a genuine Bali-built pagoda in the corner of one of the lakes.
I should add that it is also an open-air gallery for over 85 contemporary sculptures.
We planned to visit it on the tail-end of a long weekend in York; something we’d been promising ourselves for a while. The truth is we didn’t quite make it to the park as planned due to the horrific weather conditions. Because our tickets had been pre-booked, we made a call from the A1 as we headed North, to ask if it would be okay to reschedule our booking. Fortunately, they were fine with it (and admitted that the park would be closing early because of the extreme weather anyway), and we returned on the following Wednesday, when the conditions were much better (quite glorious, in fact).
A YouTube presentation – Yorvik Autumn – featuring my painting process, can be seen here.
This painting is supplied unframed, and will be dispatched in protective packaging with rigid backing panel, ready to take to a framer.
