'Once-loved' could refer to either the caravan or the barn; both are in a state of grave disrepair, yet both, I'm sure, will have fulfilled their functions and given much joy in days gone by. At least... I'm assuming nobody lives in the caravan...
This old, delapidated barn and equally delapidated caravan, came to my attention while out walking locally (in Richmond, North Yorkshire), providing me with a scene that had instant character and an interesting narrative.
There's something quite forlorn about the tableau, yet also calming, like the two subjects are an old retired couple sat on a park bench, looking out at the world reflecting on past glories. Actually; the thing that caught my eye first of all was the way the light was catching the patchwork roof, and creating the slanting shadows.
Needless to say, I had a lot of fun painting this.
