Description
Sometimes it’s good to lose yourself in an architectural challenge such as this, The Basilica of Saint Mark, which takes a prominent position at the Eastern end of St Peters Square in Venice.
Drawing it is an exercise in close observation and patience. My approach to such complexity is always to establish a few simple guidelines and create a reasonably accurate skeleton layout before applying any shading at all. This remains one of the toughest drawings I think I’ve ever undertaken… very satisfying, though.
An in-depth video demonstration of me drawing the sketch is featured on the Painting Venice DVD.
This painting is supplied unframed, and will be dispatched in protective packaging with rigid backing panel, ready to take to a framer.
