Description
Marske Beck winds its way wearily down the dale, between Skelton Moor and Feldom Ranges, from the tiny hamlet of Helwith to the village of Marske, where it joins the River Swale. At the point depicted in this painting, where it is joined by Throstle Gill, the ground is quite sodden and chaotic, and it was only because of the way the light reflected in the water and was framed by these beautifully gnarly trees that I found myself wandering off the beaten track to get a closer look.
In the end, I hope it was worth it; it certainly proved to be a challenging proposition, but I’m satisfied that I managed to capture something of the ethereal glow of light emanating from the scene. I painted it while exhibiting at the second Northern Art Fair in St John’s Chapel (Weardale) in July 2022.
This painting is supplied unframed, and will be dispatched in protective packaging with rigid backing panel, ready to take to a framer.
