Description

This sketch was made on location, after an evening dash up to the top of Helm Crag, in Grasmere (6:40pm on the 31st of May 2008, to be precise). A climb to the top became an annual pilgrimage for me, to be undertaken at the end of the first day of my weekend workshop in Grasmere… followed by a pint or two in the Red Lion.

The Lion and the Lamb are names give to the two prominent rocks located at one end of the summit (the large rock at the other end is known as ‘The Howitzer’).

I’m never happier than when I’m navigating my way around a bunch of rocks with a pencil. The lightly drawn lake you can see just to the right of the larger rock is Grasmere itself, while the hills visible to the left lead up to Fairfield.

This painting is supplied unframed, and will be dispatched in protective packaging with rigid backing panel, ready to take to a framer.
