Description

Cragside is a National Trust property near Rothbury in Northumberland, whose grounds are extensive, with interesting views around every corner.

I love visiting Cragside. It was the home of William Armstrong, a notable industrial magnate, scientist and inventor, and the house was the first in the world to be lit using hydroelectric power. The grounds cover a massive 16,000 acres, and features Grade 1 listed gardens, woods, lakes and a myriad of walkways to keep visitors happy for many hours. This view caught my eye immediately, with its interesting play of light and shade set against the dense woodland. The puddle enabled me to bring the blue of the sky down from the top half of the scene down into the foreground, thus linking the two parts together.

This painting is supplied unframed, and will be dispatched in protective packaging with rigid backing panel, ready to take to a framer.
