Description
The Gap of Dunloe in County Kerry, Ireland, is a spectacular glacial valley in the heart of the Killarney National Park.
I love painting these kind of scenes, where I can absorb myself in the rocks, and the focal point is taken care of by the prominent packhorse Bridge.
Although there is a right of way to all vehicles in the Gap of Dunloe, there are often minor conflicts between car drivers and the horse-drawn jaunting cart operators, who try to dissuade visitors by erecting non-official, official-looking signs by Kate Kearney’s Cottage at the bottom end of the valley.
Having visited Ireland a couple of times, I keep coming back to this place, where there are potential paintings at every turn – it just fills me with inspiration.
