Description

This is the River Swale, as seen flowing through Richmond in North Yorkshire. Believed to be one of the fastest flowing, and rising, rivers in England; the Swale has been known to rise 3 metres in 20 minutes, and allegedley cause a bore similar to that seen on the River Severn (although I’ve never seen that). It runs for 73 miles in length from Nine Standards Rigg in Upper Swaledale to just North of York, where it joins the River Ouse.

I hadn’t originally planned to paint it in full spate, but when it came down to it, this was the view that really took my eye. Being as wild as it is, my interest was piqued by the huge amount of detail on show, all of which I aimed to try and capture as closely as I could.

This painting is supplied unframed, and will be dispatched in protective packaging with rigid backing panel, ready to take to a framer.
