Description
Church interiors present the watercolourist with a series of unique challenges. They are often, but not always, complex in their design, with multiple arches, domes and pillars, not to mention all many ornamentations that generally adorn a church’s interior walls.
Every one is unique, of course, but they do all have one thing in common; one thing that is crucial to the process of watercolour, particularly when it comes to architecture, and that’s light. How light falls upon a subject will often define the underlying mood of a space. It might be from large windows, or it might also be from sconces or lanterns. It might also be reflected in the highly polished surfaces of wood or marble.
